Meet the Instructors

John Kruce
Kids Instructor
John began his Jiu Jitsu journey in 2005 and earned his black belt in 2015. With years of experience on the mat, he brings a wealth of knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm to our kids’ program. Outside of the academy, John is also a professional bass angler and fishing guide, sharing his passion for the outdoors with others just as he does with martial arts.

Fernando Mena
Instructor
Fernando is our assistant instructor. He is a TTU Alumni and an electrical engineer by trade. He has been training since 2015 and is currently a brown belt.

Austin Hughes (Zeus)
Instructor
Zeus is basically the CEO of Thunder. Sky boss. Thunder in one hand, lightning bolt in the other. A lover and a fighter. Main-character vibes, but will let you work. Also… knows judo.

Terrell DeLeon
Instructor
Terrell started his martial arts training in the Military. Terrell joined the Marine Corps in 2003 after high school. In 2006 he became a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Instructor achieving the rank of black belt in 2008. To expand his knowledge, he began training Jiu Jitsu on his free time. And has trained at many different Jiu Jitsu academies and MMA gyms all over the country.
In 2013 Terrell was one of the founding members of the Texas Tech Jiu Jitsu Club. This where he first met and started training with, Lubbock Jiu Jitsu Academy founder, Roger Del Campo. Roger awarded Terrell his brown belt in November of 2024.

Liz is a Blue Belt who steps onto the mat nearly every day. After two and a half years of training, she helps coach both the kids and adult classes at LJJA.

Lubbock Jiu-Jitsu Academy is affiliated with Seattle Jiu-Jitsu Academy, which is proudly run by 5th Degree Black Belt Professor David Stegman. David has over 35 years experience training martial arts and the last 29 years focused on Jiu-Jitsu.
